Commemorations to Mark Milestone
State Ceremony to Open Celebrations in Berlin
Germany will commemorate the 75th anniversary of its Basic Law, the country's constitution, on May 23, 2024. The festivities will commence with a state ceremony in Berlin, followed by various events across the nation.
The Basic Law was promulgated on May 23, 1949, and has served as the foundation of German democracy for the past seven and a half decades.
The Federal Government plans to host a grand democracy festival in Berlin as part of the celebrations. The Bundestag, Germany's parliament, will also participate in the commemorations.
The anniversary coincides with the 35th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution in East Germany, which led to the reunification of the country.
